A Greenfield Township accident sent eight people to hospitals, three of whom were children, authorities reported. Altogether, 10 people suffered injuries in the June 19 car crash, which reportedly happened around noon at the intersection of State Route 158 and Carroll Eastern Road.
According to the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office, an SUV was traveling on State Route 158 at approximately 50 miles per hour when it approached Carroll Eastern Road and collided with a van that had entered its path. The driver of the van thought that the intersection was a four-way stop, reportedly. Authorities said the impact caused the van to roll onto its side and hit another vehicle.
According to authorities, two people injured in the wreck received treatment on the scene. In addition, five adults and three children suffered injuries requiring hospitalization. Reportedly, one of the children was in critical condition.
Car crashes like this one may be both physically and emotionally traumatic. Furthermore, accident victims must often cope with the financial stress that accompanies lengthy hospital stays, expensive medical treatment, costly rehabilitation and long-term care as well as time off from work.
However, accident victims may seek recourse for these financial burdens in civil court. By filing a personal injury claim against the party responsible for the accident, injured victims may seek financial compensation for the damages they suffered, including hospital bills, medical expenses and rehabilitation costs. Claimants in successful personal injury lawsuits might also be awarded restitution for lost wages if their injuries proved to be disabling.
However, prevailing in such civil action is difficult and may require highly contentious litigation. For this reason, many accident victims retain the counsel and resources of a personal injury attorney prior to filing their claim.
