Accident kills 2 in Ohio

An August 19 accident in Ashland County killed two people, reportedly. According to authorities, the Jackson Township crash occurred at the intersection of U.S. 42 and State Route 302.

That is where a 37-year-old driver allegedly ran a stop sign and collided with a minivan carrying four people. The force of impact reportedly caused both vehicles to rebound off of the roadway.

The 37-year-old driver of the first vehicle reported suffering injuries that authorities described as minor. Two occupants of the minivan, a 77-year-old woman and a 25-year-old woman, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. The minivan's driver and a child passenger suffered injuries requiring hospitalization; yet, the extent of their injuries was not clear in the immediate aftermath of the accident.

The Ohio State Patrol commenced an investigation into the accident. According to OSP, alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in this case. It was unclear if law enforcement officials planned to file charges in connection with the fatal incident.

Even in the event that no criminal charges arise from this accident, the at-fault driver may still be held accountable for the incident if the people who suffered injuries in the crash wish to pursue civil action. For, those who suffer damages in connection with an accident that can be demonstrably attributed to the negligence or recklessness of another party may be entitled to financial compensation through civil action.

This includes certain family members of deceased accident victims. Bereaved families often retain a wrongful death attorney to file suit against the at-fault driver, seeking restitution for estate administration expenses, funeral costs and other pecuniary losses related to the fatal car accident.
