3-vehicle Fayette County crash kills Ohio man

According to reports from the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, a 20-year-old Washington Court House man was killed after being involved in a multiple vehicle collision. Law enforcement officials reported that the accident occurred on Nov. 9 around 4:20 p.m. on U.S. 22 at the intersection of Hess Road.

The 20-year-old man had apparently stopped on U.S. 22 in order to make a left turn onto Hess Road from the highway. An 18-year-old woman from Grove City reportedly failed to see he had stopped to turn left and crashed into his vehicle while she was driving a van east on the highway.

Following the initial collision, the force pushed the man's car into a vehicle being driven by a 51-year-old Washington Court House woman. The 51-year-old woman's car subsequently burst into flames. Deputies were able to get her out of her car safely. The 20-year-old man was trapped in his vehicle, according to deputies. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The 51-year-old woman was transported first to Fayette County Memorial Hospital and then to a Columbus-area hospital for medical treatment. The 18-year-old woman and her passenger received only minor injuries and were both treated at the scene. Law enforcement officers continue to investigate the accident and indicated that charges have not been filed.

Too many people die in car accidents caused by the negligence of another driver each year. When a driver is inattentive or distracted and causes a fatal collision as a result, the family of those killed may be able to hold the driver civilly liable by filing a wrongful death lawsuit. Even if the person does not face criminal charges, damages may still be recoverable in civil court. People may wish to speak with a personal injury attorney regarding their case.
