Ohio 2-car collision leaves 1 dead

A 50-year-old woman is dead and another person was hospitalized following a two-car crash in Columbus on Jan. 20. When the report was released, the cause of the fatal accident was still under investigation.

Authorities say that the crash occurred on Olentangy River Road when a person driving a southbound Mercedes-Benz struck a northbound Volkswagen that was turning into a driveway. The force of the impact sent the Mercedes-Benz off the roadway and into an embankment, where it then overturned. In the process, the driver was injured, and a female was pronounced dead by emergency medical personnel, who then transported the Mercedes-Benz driver to Riverside Hospital for treatment. The Volkswagen driver was not seriously injured.

Two-car collisions, similar to this one, are oftentimes caused by negligent or distracted drivers and result in catastrophic injuries or death. Families who have lost a loved one in this way may wish to hold the liable party responsible for their financial losses stemming from the fatal car accident. This can be done through the filing of a wrongful death suit.

In such cases, a personal injury attorney representing the decedent's survivors will use all available evidence, including the official police accident investigation report and eyewitness testimony, in attempting to demonstrate responsibility on the part of the defendant motorist. State statutes often set forth the types and amounts of damages that can be sought in a wrongful death lawsuit, and they commonly allow the reimbursement of funeral and burial expenses. Other amounts that are often sought could include the loss of consortium and, if the decedent was the breadwinner or otherwise contributed to household expenses, the loss of those future amounts.
