Is a lawyer necessary after a trucking accident?

Trucking accidents are often devastating to the people involved. Hiring a lawyer to take on your case, on top of paying for damages and medical bills, may seem impossible. So, is it worth it?

Having a lawyer to fight for you after a truck accident could actually earn you a lot of compensation for the damages and injuries, covering the cost of medical treatment and possibly lost wages from recovery time. A lawyer can also protect you from unfair treatment by insurers, which is a very common occurrence.

Companies are responsible for their employees and their trucks. They must:

· Check truckers' safety records

· Properly train truckers

· Uphold company safety policies

· Keep trucks functioning correctly and safe to drive

They may NOT:

· Force truckers to use distracting equipment, such as a phone

· Force truckers to work long hours that could cause fatigue

If a truck accident occurs, the company may be held liable for any of these reasons. Holding a company liable becomes more difficult if the trucker was an independent contractor rather than a full-time employee of the company. In either case, proving the company's fault in an accident can be complex. A lawyer can examine your case and help you hold the company liable for the suffering they caused you and your family.

When accidents like this occur, the trucking company and their insurers will probably try to give you as little money as possible. They may make you an offer right away, but it is likely not the full amount you should be compensated for your damages. In any auto accident, whether it's with a truck or not, you should never speak to an insurance company without consulting a lawyer first. Insurance companies are almost always looking for ways to offer you as little as they can get away with.

Aside from the fact that it is extremely challenging to get proper compensation on your own, the main reason you deserve to have an attorney fighting for you is because the other side has them too. The trucking company will have attorneys working with them right away to prevent the company from being held responsible.

If you or a loved one is in a trucking accident, consider the benefits of an attorney at your side. You can always call for a free consultation if you have any doubts or questions about what to do. We want to help you.
