Ohio grand jury moves to indict alleged drunk driver

An Ohio grand jury recently voted to indict a woman for causing a fatal wreck last year. The 63-year-old woman is accused of being a drunk driver when she hit another vehicle, killing the driver. The investigation reportedly took several months to complete.

The fatal wreck occurred late last August. The woman was operating her vehicle in the westbound lane when she inexplicably swerved into the eastbound lane. She then smashed head long into the automobile being driven by the victim. He was killed in the impact. His wife suffered serious injuries in the crash.

Ohio police reported that the woman's blood alcohol level was recorded at .343, which exceeds the legal limit by more than four times. She is now facing several serious charges, including aggravated homicide and assault by vehicle as well as two charges of operating a vehicle under the influence of intoxicating substances. She has a bond of $10,000 with an arraignment hearing expected to be held shortly.

There were no details offered as the nature of the injuries that the victim's wife suffered in the wreck nor how her recovery has progressed thus far. However, in spite of the criminal charges and potential penalties this alleged drunk driver is facing, the widow may have already consulted with a personal injury attorney in order to file a wrongful death and injury civil suit against the woman believed responsible for the wreck. A finding in her favor may allow her to recover financial damages that could help her eliminate medical bills and final expenses after the loss of her spouse. Furthermore, she may be able to relieve financial pressures that likely followed after her husband's untimely death, leaving her better able to focus on her own recovery.
